Well-Organized Bathrooms Put Everything in the Right Place

Your bathroom is one of the busiest rooms in the house, second only to your kitchen for both traffic and use. Having an organized bathroom can go a long way to keeping the peace and morning traffic moving.

The most important component in any bathroom is the vanity, sink and mirror area because that is where most activity takes place. Brushing teeth, combing hair, applying makeup … it all happens here so making sure everything has its place and there’s a place for everything is key.

Drawers are a great storage solution because they can fit a number of items from towels to shaving and makeup necessities. This way, counter tops stay clear but the stuff you use the most is still within easy reach.

Vanity cabinets can be outfitted with electrical outlets, too, to keep hairdryers at the ready and provide space for flat irons and curling irons to cool without leaving them out in the open. Electric toothbrushes can stay plugged in and charged without leaving them out in the open.

Roll-out shelves can be another option if your vanity wasn’t designed with drawers. Pull-out shelves out eliminates reaching in and rummaging around. You’ll locate things more easily because everything is visible, decreasing clutter and the chance of spilling anything.

In the shower – even with shower-over-tub configurations – built-in cubbies or shelves keep everyone’s shampoos, conditioners, body washes, soap, etc. neat and easy to find.

Shelves can easily be incorporated as well using corner units, or if you’re replacing your tub surround, consider installing shower walls with adjustable shelves or recessing storage areas in between studs before cement board and tile go up.

If the bathroom doesn’t have a linen closet, extra towels can be rolled and stood up inside larger baskets, and tissue paper can placed in a basket nearby. To give bath towels a chance to dry and keep laundry off the floor, each member of the family can have a designated towel hook or ring.
