Lighting trends for 2015 take into account the changing needs of the modern homeowner’s need for bright efficiency, style, and luxury at a price that won’t break the bank.
Major lighting manufacturers like Kichler, Progress Lighting and Hinkley are bringing sophisticated silhouettes to market that showcase signature style and superior value that follow expected trends in lighting for 2015.
1. LED lamps – a few short years ago compact fluorescent lamps were considered cutting-edge technology, but have now been surpassed by LED lighting for a number of reasons, including the lack of harmful chemicals and longevity. LED lamps – light emitting diode – are mercury-free, and a 10W bulb – the equivalent of a 60W incandescent – uses considerably less energy. With a life expectancy of at least 10 years, LED lamps continue to gain market share because they deliver truer, superior light output without sucking up electricity.
2. Pendant lights – Typically considered task lighting above kitchen islands or hung strategically in darker corners for reading, pendant lights come in such a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and materials, there’s little reason to not incorporate them into any room. Homeowners can choose to hang pendants individually or take home a multi-pendant fixture for a unique and contemporary look.
3. Shower lights – Incorporating lights into the shower space is long overdue, and some new showerheads are available with LED lights that are powered by the shower spray. Shower lights can be regular white or change color depending on the water temperature or even rotate through colors with a pre-set programs. Of course, regular, waterproof light fixtures are also available for better visibility.
