If you’re looking to change out your lighting in 2016, think big, nautical and the chic side of industrial.

Our friends at Progress Lighting say lighting trends this year will tend toward larger pieces, evoke the feeling of a beach house, and embrace industrial chic.

The bigger the better

Lighting fixtures that make a statement and ground a room because they’re bigger and bolder will be key in 2016.

“Lighting fixtures that make a bold statement and serve as the focal point of a room are trending. You don’t have to have a large home to take part in this trend – a statement pendant in a kitchen nook or above a dining room table can make for a beautiful style accent,” Carolyn Canington writes.

Bring the ship to shore

Canington also says that nautical themed lighting will also make a splash this year primarily because the crisp and classic combination of navy and white isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

“Sail away with nautical home accents. With navy being a top color trend for 2016, complement your look with new fixture designs that incorporate nautical twists,” the story continues.

Warm up with cool industrial chic

Mixing up design styles in 2016 will trend toward using industrial elements like steel pendant lights and metal stools in a country kitchen. As more homeowners mix and match pieces, metals, materials and textures to create more personalized spaces, the more often you’ll find rustic rooms warming up the cooler tones and textures usually found in industrial lofts.

“Pair industrial designs with rustic-inspired interiors as a way to warm up this popular trend. For lighting, fixtures that incorporate steely accents, knob and strap details,” Caninton explains.
