Americans who travel to Europe and Japan are often confused when they visit the washroom for the first time and notice the bidet, a separate fixture installed next to the toilet. Developed in France sometime in the early 1700s, the purpose of the bidet is cleanliness and sanitation.
So … what’s a washlet? This fixture is also about cleanliness and sanitation, but instead of needing to plumb in for a separate apparatus, the functionality is built into the toilet or can be a seat fitted to an existing toilet.
Do you think you’d ever try a bidet or a washlet?
